Frequently Asked Questions

What are the available styles for iScience?
iScience is available in Single Vision, FT 28, Biospheric Progressive, Ionic Progressive, and Micro Progressive.

What is the Biospheric progressive?
The Biospheric progressive has an 18mm fitting ht. It has an atoric design. Atoric design flattens out the back surface of the lens allowing for a more cosmetically appealing lens.

What is the Ionic Progressive?
The Ionic Progressive has a 22mm fitting ht. It works better for larger frames.

What is the Micro progressive?
The Micro progressive has a 15mm fitting ht. It's great for those smaller frames so popular in today's styles.

What colors do the iScience line come in?
iScience comes in clear and SmartShades photochromic. The SmartShades photochromic comes in Grey only.

Is there a scratch coat on iScience?
Yes. There is a front and back side coating. It is part of the mold process with Ultra Optics coating. It will have a 2 year warranty from Soderberg.

Who is the manufacturer?
Soderberg Ophthalmic Services

Is it a molded product?
Yes. Because this is a custom "cast to Rx" using highly advanced glass mold designs there will be no surfacing, polishing, and fining defects. This creates a very clear lens product for superior visual clarity.

Is it tintable?
No. The hardcoat that is applied in the mold process is a non-tintable hardcoat.

Can it have Crizal applied?
No. It can only have Ultra and Zeiss Super ET Blue and Zeiss Super ET Gold.

Is it available in uncut?
Yes. If there is Ultra AR applied Soderberg recommends using Riki Pads for edging. This will help eliminate slippage.

What are the power ranges?
-6.00 to 4.00 sph, up to a -6.50 cyl. Total power for the "cast to Rx" product is not to exceed plus or minus 6.50. Add range is +1.00 to +3.00. For powers over the total power parameter, we take iScience S.F. blanksand grind them using conventional surfacing techniques for the added charge.

Can I have prescribed prism in iScience?
No. It is not designed to allow for prescribed prism. However, we can grind prism using iScience S.F. blanks for an additional charge.

Can I specify edge thickness?
No. Not even for add powers. When you start changing the molds you start changing the prescription.

What is the blank size for iScience?
It is about 72 mm blank size.

Are we able to request a 1.0 center thickness?
No. Any time you change the molds you will change the Rx.
